Discover the seven core programs driving Hope A Life International’s mission to empower widows, protect orphans, and uplift vulnerable communities.
Hope A Life International operates as an umbrella organization, focusing on seven primary programs of impact:
This program highlights the challenges faced by widows in Kenya and beyond. Initially launched as a small project to assist a limited number of widows, it has expanded to positively impact over 62,200 widows, a small fraction of the estimated 8 million widows in Kenya. There is much work still to be done.
Serving widows is incomplete without caring for their fatherless children. Since a widow’s priority is her children, HALI’s outreach naturally extends to the orphans. Through our widow groups, we identify and recruit the most vulnerable orphans and take them to our partner ministry, Echoes of Mercy Mission. There, the children are housed, educated, and cared for in state-of-the-art institutions that provide accommodation, medical support, education, human formation, and other essential needs.
This initiative arises from a commitment to protect girls from the lifelong consequences of this harmful practice. We engage in community sensitization efforts to eliminate such traditions and promote respect for human dignity.
In some cultures, daughters can be married as young as 13. Our organization raises awareness about this issue to prevent early marriages, thereby granting girls the opportunity to mature and make their own choices. We also provide rehabilitation for the victims, offering them a second chance at life.
Gender-based violence has risen to alarming levels in recent years. We are committed to condemning this violence by educating communities about equal rights, mutual respect, and dignity. Additionally, we assist victims through their healing process by providing counseling and support.
We believe that every child deserves equal opportunities, regardless of their physical status. Our organization prioritizes children with disabilities, sourcing the necessary aids to help them navigate daily challenges and striving to ensure they receive a quality education that empowers them to pursue equal opportunities.
This is a mission where we partner with Echoes of Mercy Mission to empower the Dasanach people found on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia around Lake Turkana. They lack basic needs like food, clean water, education, medical care, and clothing. Their challenges are made worse by the practice of FGM and the neglect of the girl child. To empower them, we started a project educating their children in Homa Bay, courtesy of Echoes of Mercy Mission, providing relief food several times a year. We hope to get enough resources to utilize the Lake water to provide clean water and agricultural activities for food security.
Many girls today feel isolated because they lack trusted relationships with those around them. With no safe space to share their struggles, they often confide in the wrong people who mislead them or turn to social media for answers that leave them empty. That’s why we must choose to be that trusted big sister, a safe voice of wisdom, love, and truth.
Our commitment to the plight of the widows opened our eyes to other challenges facing the vulnerable people in our society. This, by necessity compelled us to increase the programs of impact.
